Orbs
What Are Orbs?
Orbs are circular objects that sometimes appear in photographs or videos. They are one of the most commonly discussed topics in paranormal investigations. Some people believe orbs represent spirits or spiritual energy, while many photographers and investigators point to natural causes such as dust, insects, water droplets, or camera effects.
At Dead Air Paranormal, we do not automatically consider an orb to be paranormal. Every image should be carefully reviewed before drawing conclusions.
Common Types of Orbs
White Orbs
The most frequently reported type. They are often associated with spirits in paranormal folklore but are also commonly caused by dust or moisture reflecting a camera's flash.
Blue Orbs
Some people believe blue orbs represent calm or protective energy. There is no scientific evidence supporting this interpretation.
Green Orbs
Often caused by lens flare when a bright light reflects inside the camera lens. They are among the most common camera artifacts.
Orange or Red Orbs
May result from nearby lights, reflections, insects close to the lens, or airborne particles illuminated by a flash.
Dark Orbs
Dark circular shapes are less commonly reported. They may be caused by insects, debris, shadows, or camera artifacts and should be examined carefully.
Common Natural Explanations
Before considering a paranormal explanation, investigators should check for:
Dust particles
Pollen
Insects
Rain
Snow
Fog
Water droplets
Spider webs
Lens flare
Camera flash reflection
Dirty camera lenses
Compression artifacts in digital images
Most orb photographs can be explained by one or more of these causes.
